Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ASHLAND, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire softball team split wins today, defeating Northland College 5-1 before falling 3-2 to the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) at Lumberjill Field.

The win over Northland, a team the Blugolds have never lost to in program history, ended a three-game losing streak for the Blugolds. Eau Claire is now 9-15 overall this season. Northland is 6-15 while St. Scholastica is 10-10.

In game one, Northland got on the board first with a run in the third but the Blugolds used a big sixth inning to help in the win. Eau Claire scored four times in the inning and picked up five hits.

With just one out, Ashley Kenworthy (Fr.-Tomah, Wis.) scored the tying run. Tamara Zeman (Sr.-Lodi, Wis.) then drove in Emily Muller (So.-Lancaster, Wis.) and Sara Baumgartner (Jr.-Arcadia, Wis.) in the next at-bat after a triple, the first in her career. A Nikki Bromelkamp (So.-Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) single then brought Zeman home to give the Blugolds the 4-1 advantage. Jenny Hess (Fr.-Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) added an insurance run in the seventh inning after another triple by Zeman.

Katie Stalker (Sr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) and Zeman led Eau Claire with three hits each as the Blugolds had 11 total, their fourth most in a game this year. Zeman had three RBIs.

In the circle, Ashley Meinen (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) picked up the win to improve to 5-3 on the year. She had one strikeout as she pitched five innings. Kassie Krummel (Fr.-Walcott, Iowa/Durant) recorded a save, her third of the year, pitching two innings.

In game two, Stalker also had three hits to lead Eau Claire as the team finished with six. She scored the Blugolds' opening run in the first inning to give the Blugolds a one-run advantage. However, the Saints scored two runs in the bottom of the first and another in the bottom of the fourth to go up 3-1.

Muller scored Eau Claire's final run of the game in the fifth but the Blugolds left the tying run on base in the inning. They also left two runners on bases in the sixth and were unable to get anything going in the seventh.

Krummel was given the loss after pitching six innings against the Saints. She had five strikeouts, the most she has thrown in her career in a single game, and allowed five hits.

The Blugolds will now be at home for their next six games. They will play conference doubleheaders Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at Gelein Field. The Blugolds will open the three-game home stand against UW-Stout on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
