MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's outdoor track and field team opened the season competing in the 2010 Rhodes College Invitational today.
The Blugolds took seventh place out of 20 teams after scoring 60 points. UW-Stout won the meet with 86 points while Illinois College finished second with 73 and Albion was third with 68.5.
Eau Claire had seven finishes of third place or better on the day. The Blugolds had their strongest showing on the track as six of those finishes came in running events.
Patrick Keyes (Jr.-Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) had two second place finishes as he took second in the 110-meter hurdle with a time of 15.43 and in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.31.
Tim Braunschweig (Sr.-Mukwonago, Wis.) and Jake Zander (Jr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) also had second place finishes as Braunschweig finished with a time of 49.69 in the 400-meter dash and Zander had a time of 4:02.06 in the 1,500-meter run. The Blugolds also had third and fourth place finishers in the 1,500-meter run with Adam Flyte (Sr.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) taking third and Chris Wirtz (Sr.-Weston, Wis./D.C. Everest) finishing fourth.
Also on the track, Andy Sol (Sr.-Menomonie, Wis.) was third in the 300-meter run with a time of 1:58.41.
In the field, Mike Kosiak (Fr.-Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) took third on the pole vault with a height of 4.05 meters (13-3.5).
The Blugolds will compete again next Friday (April 2) in the UW-Oshkosh Invite. Action will get underway at noon.
