Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team upended Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opponent UW-River Falls 5-2 at the Bollinger Fields today.
The Blugolds' Shyla Gilberston (Fr.-Waunakee, Wis.), who scored the game-winning goal in overtime against UW-Stout on Wednesday, put Eau Claire on the scoreboard first with a goal at 5:03 in the first half with the assist coming from Sam Krueger (Sr.-Elkhorn, Wis.). The next goal of the game came from Eau Claire's Katie Richter (Fr.-Waukesha, WI/West) who out-did the River Falls defense for an unassisted goal three minutes after the Blugolds' first goal. With 7:48 left in the half, the Blugolds struck again with an unassisted goal from Emily Alsheskie (Fr.-Plymouth, Wis./St. Mary's Springs) to give Eau Claire the 3-0 lead at half.
The Blugolds continued scoring in the second half with an unassisted goal from Allie Kishaba (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) at 49:59 to give Eau Claire a comfortable four-goal lead.
River Falls would not be shutout however, as the Falcons scored their first goal at 53:41. River Falls put another mark on the scoreboard at 58:56 as they began a comeback, but Eau Claire's Rachel Nerison (So.-Maple Grove, Minn.) scored off of the pass from Ali Mater (Jr.-Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) at 87:28 to make the final score 5-2 in favor of the Blugolds.
The win marks a two-game winning streak for Eau Claire as they move to 2-0-0 in the WIAC and 3-2-1 overall. The loss drops River Falls to 1-2-0 in the WIAC and 3-3-1 overall.
Eau Claire out shot its opponent for the second game in a row, racking up 17 shots compared to the Falcons 11. Eau Claire also had more close-to-goal opportunities, receiving seven corner kicks compared River Falls' three.
Emily Kidd (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) played the full 90 minutes defending the Blugold net, recording three saves while allowing two goals. Rachel Thompson played keeper for the Falcons, racking up five saves and giving up five goals.
The game today marks the first of a three-game home stand at Bollinger Fields. Macalester College (Minn.) will challenge the Blugolds tomorrow at 2 p.m., while UW-Platteville will make the journey to compete against Eau Claire at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
