MARIETTA, Ohio - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team tied for 18th place at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Marietta College, the Blugolds' best finish since 1996 when they tied for 11th.
UW-Oshkosh won the national title with 46 points while McMurry University finished second with 40. The University of St. Thomas took third with 39 points.
Today the Blugold men competed in two events and recorded two All-American finishes as they took seventh in both events.
In the 800-meter run, Wes Fischer (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn.) finished seventh with a time of 1:52.03. The winner, Emmanuel Bofa from Whitworth University, won the national title with a facility record time of 1:48.77
In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Tim Braunschweig (Jr.-Mukwonago, Wis.), Chris Kupfer (Sr.-Germantown, Wis.), Josh Prince (Fr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis.) and Patrick Mackin (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) took seventh with a time of 3:14.25. The University of St. Thomas won the event with a facility record time of 3:10.60.
