OSHKOSH, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team finished sixth out of nine teams at the 2009 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium today.
This is the fourth year in the Blugolds finished sixth. This year they scored 89 points, the most since the 1992 championships when they score 91 to take second, while UW-La Crosse won its 19th straight conference title, which was also its 45th overall, with 176.50 points. UW-Stevens Point took second with 157, UW-Whitewater finished third with 129.50 and UW-Oshkosh took fourth with 106. UW-Platteville finished right in front of the Blugolds with 99.
The best finish of the day for the Blugolds came from Tim Braunschweig (Jr.-Mukwonago, Wis.), who took second with a time of 49.70 in the 400-meter dash.
In the 800-meter run, Wes Fischer (Jr.-Rosemount, Minn.) finished third with a time of 1:56.68 while the Blugolds' 4x400-meter relay team took third with a time of 3:20.68.
The Blugolds also claimed two fourth place finishes on the day. The 4x100-meter relay team secured fourth with a time of 42.50 and Bart Mestelle (Fr.-Sun Prairie, Wis.) had a fourth place finish in the decathlon after scoring 5,467 points.
Frankie Adams (Sr.-Burnsville, Minn.) was also recognized today by named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship Team. He competed in the 100-meter dash and finished in 11th place.
The Blugolds will be back in action next Friday when they travel to Naperville, Ill. for the North Central Last Chance. Events are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
