Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

TUCSON, Ariz. - The UW-Eau Claire softball team picked up two wins on the second day of its spring break trip at the Tucson Invitational Games.

In their first game, the Blugolds recorded a 5-3 win over Edgewood College. Later in the day the Blugolds defeated Marian University 11-6. The Blugolds are now 3-1 on the season. Edgewood dropped to 0-1 while Marian fell to 0-3.

The Blugolds needed to come from behind in both games. In game one against Edgewood, the Blugolds overcame a three-run deficit while they overcame a six-run deficit against Marian.

After Edgewood scored three runs in the top of the third, the Blugolds answered in the bottom of the inning and took the lead with four runs of their own. With one out and two runners on, Tamara Zeman (Jr.-Lodi, Wis.) drove in the Blugolds' first run with a sacrifice fly. Kaity Acker (So.-Cross Plains, Wis./Middleton) scored for Eau Claire.

Nikki Bromelkamp (Fr.-Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) then doubled to center field, recording the first hit of her collegiate career, and drove in two more runs with Katie Stalker (Jr.-Madison, Wis./La Follette) and Meghan O'Hearn (So.-Woodbury, Minn.) scoring. Bromelkamp would score the Blugolds' fourth run of the inning with a Sara Baumgartner (So.-Arcadia, Wis.) single to center field.

The Blugolds then added an insurance run in the fifth inning, with Stalker scoring once again after Zeman singled. Stalker's two runs led the Blugolds while Zeman and Bromelkamp's two RBIs led the team.

Three pitchers saw time on the mound. Brooke Malnory (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) started the game and after giving up three runs in nine at-bats, Kristi Doucette (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) came in. Jenny Ross (So.-Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley) then came in and pitched the final four innings, facing 14 batters and picking up eight strikeouts while allowing two hits. Ross secured her second win of the year, improving to 2-0.

In their second game against Marian, the Blugolds once again got behind, this time with Marian scoring six runs in the top of the second. The Blugolds came storming back in the bottom of the third once again and went on to score seven runs to take the lead. The Blugolds again had one out before they came from behind.

With nine hits in the inning, Jenny Janke (Fr.-Black River Falls, Wis.) was the first to score for the Blugolds, the first run of her collegiate career. O'Hearn was the next to score after an error by the catcher. Aleisha Harper (Fr.-Mondovi, Wis./Eau Claire North) then came in on the next at-bat and Doucette, who drove in Harper, scored a run of her own later. Becca Moos (Fr.-White Bear Lake, Minn./St. Agnes), who pinch ran for Bekki Kidnie (Jr.-St. Paul, Minn./Johnson), was the next Blugold to score and Jess Freagon (Fr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) and Baumgartner came in next after Janke singled to center field. While the Blugolds scored seven runs in the inning, they left the bases loaded.

The Blugolds scored four more times, twice in the fourth and twice in the fifth. Doucette and Kidnie both scored, unearned, in the fourth while Zeman and Harper scored runs in the fifth.

Baumgartner led the Blugolds with three RBIs, while the team had nine overall. O'Hearn had three hits to lead the team while four others had two apiece. Doucette and Harper each had two runs.

Three pitchers were once again active for the Blugolds and Ross earned the win after pitching four innings. She allowed two hits and struck out two while facing 13 batters. Bri Sturm (Sr.-Zumbrota, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) started for the Blugolds and after six Marian runs, only two of which were earned, Ashley Meinen (Fr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./McDonell) came in to relieve her. Meinen faced six batters, allowing two hits in just over one inning, before Ross came"
