EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - With the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship less than a week away, the UW-Eau Claire men's track and field team competed in three last chance meets over the past two days.
On Thursday some members of the team took part in the UW-La Crosse last chance meet. Al Oleson (Sr.-Wausau, Wis./West), Brian Christ (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.) and the Blugolds' 4x400-meter relay team all picked up Division III provisional qualifying marks at the event. Oleson's toss of 182-06 in the hammer throw was good enough for a third place finish overall, while the relay team finished with a time of 3:16.71, also in third place. Christ's third place finish with a time 53.99 in the 400-meter hurdles also came in as a provisional qualifying time.
Josh Boehm (Sr.-Mosinee, Wis.) was also in River Falls on Thursday to compete in the last chance decathlon. He took first in the 100-meter dash, 400-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles, but did not finish the overall event on Friday.
On Friday a number of Blugolds headed to Rock Island, Illinois for the Augustana Last Chance. While no one had provisional or automatic qualifying marks, a couple were close. Nick Desotelle (Jr.-Weston, Wis./Schofield D. C. Everest) recorded a height of 15-03 - in the pole vault, while the provisional qualifying height is 15-05. He ended up taking third in the event. In the 400-meter hurdles, Christ finished in second with a time of 54.80. The provisional qualifying time is 54.50.
Next Thursday the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship begins. UW-Oshkosh will host the event and it will run May 22-24.
