EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's track team finished competition in forth place out of eight teams at The Oshkosh Invitational on Saturday.
The competition was won by the host school UW-Oshkosh with 190 points. The second place team was UW-Whitewater with 80.5 points, and UW-Stout came in third with 68 points. The Blugolds earned 56.5 points on their way to fourth place. The bottom four teams in the completion were North Central College, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Platteville, and UW-Parkside.
The Blugolds did not turn in a single first place finish on the track side of the competition. Their top performances came from Spencer Lindholm (Fr.-Shakopee, MN) and Dan Koenig (Fr.-Plymouth, MN/Robbinsdale Armstrong). Both Lindholm and Koenig came in fourth in their events. Lindholm competed in the 400-meter dash and turned in a time of 51.54 seconds. Koenig competed in the 400-meter hurdles and finished with a time of 58.11 seconds. Corrie Floyd (So.-Whitewater, WI) finished right behind Koenig in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.36 seconds.
The results were a little better for the Blugolds on the field side of the competition as Logan Koerten (Fr.- Plover, WI/SPASH) finished first in the long jump, Dan Pederson (Sr.- Boyceville, WI) finished second in the triple jump, and Matt Crosby (Sr.- Glenwood City, WI) finished second in the javelin throw. Koerten won the long jump with a jump of 6.72-meters in the finals. Pederson's second place finish was the result of 13.31-meter jump in the finals, and Crosby took second in the javelin throw with a distance of 45.00-meters.
Other Blugold track team members were competing elsewhere this weekend. On Friday at The Drake Relays, the team of Brian Christ (Sr.- Arcadia, WI), Justin White (So.- Arcadia, WI), Tim Braunschweig (So.- Mukwonago, WI), and Chris Kupfer (Jr.- Germantown, WI) finished 16th out of 35 in the prelims of the 4X400-meter race. The Blugolds also had participants in Sampson College's Kip Janvrin Open in Indianola, Iowa on Friday. Zach Lee (Fr.-Ladysmith, WI) had an impressive showing in Indianola with a seventh place finish in the 100-meter dash. Lee ran the dash in 11.27 seconds.
The UW-Eau Claire men's track team will compete in The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships next Friday and Saturday. The event will take place in Eau Claire.
