EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (6-3, 4-1) secured a decisive victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (7-5, 1-3) with an 18–4 win on Wednesday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds' defense was instrumental, forcing 28 turnovers and collecting 53 ground balls.
UWEC established an early lead in the first quarter against UW-Stevens Point, starting with a goal by
Jess Stiller assisted by
Grace Schmidt at 14:21.
Reegan Werner quickly added to the lead with an unassisted goal just seconds later, followed by
Ellie Fisher's score at 10:30, assisted by Schmidt. Stiller scored again at 9:24, with an assist from
Paige Kiani, prompting UW-Stevens Point to call a timeout. Despite a response from UW-Stevens Point's Ava Muller at 6:09, the home team continued to dominate. Fisher, assisted by
Brianna Scanlon, and Stiller, with an assist from
Addison Moudry, each scored again, closing the quarter with UW-Eau Claire leading 8–1.
UW-Eau Claire dominated the second quarter, extending its lead with five unanswered goals. Werner opened the scoring at 14:06, followed by another goal just over a minute later, assisted by
Victoria Shea. Fisher and
Emerson Mattox added to the tally with goals at 6:20 and 4:03, respectively, with Mattox scoring again in the final minute on a feed from Kiani. UW-Stevens Point struggled to maintain possession, with multiple turnovers contributing to its inability to score during this quarter. The home team concluded the quarter leading 13–1.
UW-Stevens Point initiated the third quarter with a quick goal by Marissa Van Dyke at 14:19, narrowing the deficit. Shortly after, Rowan Dunn extended UW-Stevens Point's momentum with another goal at 12:11. UWEC responded decisively, as Stiller found the back of the net at 10:48 with an assist from Scanlon, followed by a goal from Mattox, assisted by Fisher, at 9:30. The quarter concluded with Van Dyke scoring again for UW-Stevens Point with just five seconds remaining, bringing the score to 15–4 in favor of the Blugolds.
UW-Eau Claire secured a decisive victory in the final quarter, starting with Stiller's unassisted goal at 10:50. Stiller followed up with another goal, assisted by Werner, at 9:13, extending their lead. Schmidt further added to the score with a goal at 1:51, again assisted by Werner, solidifying UW-Eau Claire's commanding position. The quarter ended with UWEC leading 18–4, as UW-Stevens Point was unable to breach the home team's defense.
Werner led the Blugolds with four goals and two assists, contributing significantly to the scoring. Fisher added four goals, including one game-winner, showcasing her efficiency by converting all her shots on goal. Stiller posted six goals on eight shots, playing a pivotal role in the offensive effort. Mattox tallied three goals and one assist, complementing the team's robust attack.
UW-Eau Claire has a record of 6-3, with a 4-1 mark in conference play. UW-Stevens Point holds a record of 7-5, with a 1-3 standing in the conference.
