EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire faced 16th ranked UW-Oshkosh in a doubleheader on Saturday, resulting in a split decision for the Blugolds. In the first game, UW-Eau Claire fell 6–0, but they bounced back in game two with a 3-0 victory with 6 hits, 4 stolen bases, a home run, and a complete game shutout from
Kasey Felden.
In the opening game, UW-Oshkosh took an early lead. In the first inning, the Titans doubled and scored on a home run, putting the visitors up 2–0. By the end of the first, the score stood at 2–0 in favor of UW-Oshkosh. The lead extended in the third inning when UWO singled and advanced to third on another double. The Titans followed with an RBI single, scoring the base runners on subsequent plays, increasing the lead to 5–0. UW-Oshkosh added one more run in the seventh inning, with a pinch runner scoring on a groundout. Despite getting 3 runners on base, UW-Eau Claire was unable to score throughout the game.
Claire Beck pitched 6 1/3 innings for UW-Eau Claire, allowing six earned runs on 13 hits, including one home run, while striking out four batters. She threw a total of 111 pitches, with 72 strikes, and did not issue any walks.
Norah Kutnink led the UWEC offense with two hits, while
Jane Wallace and
Molly Marquardt each contributed one hit during the 6-0 defeat.
In the second game, UW-Eau Claire bounced back with a 3–0 victory over UW-Oshkosh. The Blugolds' pitching staff delivered a standout performance, allowing only three hits and recording five strikeouts through seven scoreless innings. The victory was marked by a productive first inning, as
Paige Lathrop singled and advanced to second on a steal, leading to
Jane Wallace's RBI single that scored Lathrop and put UW-Eau Claire ahead 1–0.
The sixth inning featured a strong offensive push, with
Norah Kutnink hitting a solo home run to extend the lead. Later,
Kennedy Tumm, who had walked and stolen second, scored on
Hailey Hagedorn's single to left field, ending the inning with UW-Eau Claire up 3–0.
Kasey Felden pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits, issuing five walks, and striking out five batters. This was Felden's first career complete game shutout, with her efficiency marked by 119 pitches, 71 of which were strikes, improving her record to 5-2 for the season.
Paige Lathrop contributed significantly on the bases, stealing two bases, while
Norah Kutnink powered the offense with her home run. UW-Eau Claire finished the doubleheader with a record of 21-5, while UW-Oshkosh held a record of 18-5-1.
