OSHKOSH, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (8-4, 2-0) secured a doubleheader sweep over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (4-9, 0-2) on Saturday at Tiedemann Field, winning the first game 11-4 and following it up with a 6-3 victory in the second matchup.
In the first game,
Austin Buck and John Digregorio each contributed with home runs, propelling the Blugolds' offense to a commanding victory. UW-Eau Claire dominated the mid-game innings, highlighted by a pivotal sixth inning where a hit by pitch allowed
Cole Clausen to reach base and steal second.
Austin Curti's RBI single brought Clausen home, followed by
Kellen Smith's two-run homer to left field, solidifying a significant lead.
The Blugolds set the tone early with Digregorio's three-run homer in the first inning, establishing an early advantage. In the second inning, Buck's RBI double extended the lead, while the offense continued to apply pressure in the fifth, as
Will Johnson scored on a single from Curti, who was later driven in by Smith. Despite Oshkosh's attempts to rally, including a run in the seventh, UW-Eau Claire's defense held firm, aided by a crucial double play in the ninth.
Nicholas Meuser pitched 5 innings, allowing 2 hits and 3 runs (1 earned), striking out 4 and walking 2, earning his second win of the season.
Chase Watkins contributed 3 innings, conceding 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 3 batters.
Draza Dupor closed with 1 scoreless inning, holding the opposition hitless.
Kellen Smith recorded three hits, including a home run, driving in four runs and scoring twice. Digregorio added a three-run home run, totaling three RBIs. Curti collected two hits, two RBIs, and scored two runs, while Meuser's pitching performance was a key factor in the win.
In the second game, the decisive moment came in the third inning, where the Blugolds rallied for five runs.
Eli Keirstead's single initiated the rally, followed by a key hit from
Diego Caicedo.

Logan Hesselman added a sacrifice fly, and
Austin Curti capped off the inning with a three-run double down the left-field line.
UW-Oshkosh attempted to close the gap, managing a solo home run in the sixth inning to bring the score to 6-3. However, UW-Eau Claire's defense held firm through the late innings, preventing any further damage.
Evan Fischer delivered a strong performance on the mound for UW-Eau Claire, pitching 7 innings and allowing 3 earned runs on 6 hits, achieving a commendable 1.00 WHIP and recording 3 strikeouts. Sebastian De la Toba came in for relief, pitching 2 innings, allowing just 1 hit, and earning a save.
Logan Hesselman posted three hits with one RBI and added a stolen base, showcasing his offensive contributions. Curti delivered four RBIs, including a double, while
Will Johnson recorded two hits and scored a run, also contributing seven assists in the field.
With these victories, UW-Eau Claire improves their record to 8-4 and remains undefeated in conference play at 2-0, while UW-Oshkosh falls to 4-9 and 0-2 in the conference.
