ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team won a pair of matches Tuesday in Florida, earning a 6-1 win over St. Norbert College and a 5-2 win over Colby Sawyer College.
In the first match, UW-Eau Claire set the tone early against St. Norbert, sweeping all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The No. 1 duo of Pablo Rincon and Danylo Ripeckjy earned a 6-2 victory, while Sam Murillo and Billy Hughes matched that score at No. 2. At No. 3, Andrew Mueller and Ethan Leeser completed the sweep with a 6-3 win.
The Blugolds continued their strong play in singles, winning five of six courts. Billy Hughes picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3, while Logan Carroll added a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6. At No. 4, Sam Murillo battled to a three-set win, as did Danylo Ripeckjy. Ethan Leeser earned a 6-1, 7-6 win at No. 5 to round out the Blugolds' points.
In the second match of the day, Eau Claire returned to the court against Colby Sawyer College. Doubles play saw the blugolds take a point winning two of three matches. Pablo Rincon and Danylo Ripeckjy won thier match 6-2, and Andrew Mueller and Ethan Leeser took down their opponent 6-0.
In singles play, the team won four of their matches. Pablo Rincon and Ethan Leeser won their matech in two sets, 6-1, 6-2, and 6-4, 6-2 respectively. Billy Hughes and Emilio Monge both won thier matches in three sets to secure the overall victory for the Blugolds.
The team will play Webster Unversity Tomorrow, March 18th at 11:30 a.m. ET.
