EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (0-2, 0-0) fell to Sewanee (2-0, 0-0) with a final score of 18-8 on Sunday at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse. Sewanee's 6-1 first-quarter lead set the tone, and the Blugolds were unable to recover despite scoring three goals in the final quarter.
The first quarter began with UW-Eau Claire's
Jess Stiller scoring the opening goal at 14:30, putting the home team ahead early. However, Sewanee responded quickly, with Ellen Lewis equalizing at 12:52. Sewanee then took control, with Ella Townsend scoring from an assist by Marlin Price at 6:32, followed by goals from Marlin Price, Kennedy Harcourt, and Alex Kelly, extending their lead to 5-1. The quarter concluded with Price scoring again on a free position shot with 44 seconds remaining, giving Sewanee a commanding 6-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Sewanee extended its lead significantly in the second quarter, opening with a goal by Elizabeth Muller at 14:26. UW-Eau Claire responded with a goal from
Paige Kiani at 13:06, narrowing the gap. However, Sewanee dominated the quarter with a series of goals, including scores by Sally Whitehead and Erika Bolcar, pushing its total to 12-3 by the quarter's end.
Ellie Fisher managed to score for the Blugolds with a free position shot at 4:07, but Sewanee's Carolyn Ames capped the scoring at 1:48. The Blugolds struggled to maintain possession, resulting in turnovers that Sewanee capitalized on to secure its advantage.
Sewanee started the third quarter strongly with a goal by Alexa Berg at 14:18, assisted by Elizabeth Muller, followed by a solo effort from Sofia Bean at 12:35. UWEC responded with
Grace Buesgens converting a free position shot at 7:45, narrowing the gap.
Paige Kiani added another for the home team at 6:39 with an assist from
Brianna Scanlon. Despite their efforts, UW-Eau Claire could not contain Sewanee, as Marlin Price found the net at 1:07, solidifying Sewanee's lead. The quarter ended with Sewanee ahead 16-5.
Sewanee secured an early advantage in the fourth quarter with Erika Bolcar scoring a man-up goal at 13:46. The Blugolds responded strongly with
Addison Moudry netting a man-up goal assisted by
Brianna Scanlon at 12:30.
Reegan Werner then added two goals for UW-Eau Claire, one at 9:58 and another at 5:43, narrowing the gap. Molly Starkey scored for Sewanee at 1:34, maintaining their lead. Despite their efforts, the Blugolds could not overcome Sewanee's advantage, culminating in an 18-8 victory for Sewanee.
Reegan Werner led the UWEC offense with two goals from three shots, all of which were on target.
Paige Kiani contributed significantly with two goals on five shots, demonstrating consistent performance.
Brianna Scanlon played a key role in distribution, assisting on two goals.
Grace Buesgens added a goal, converting on her only shot of the game.
UW-Eau Claire has an overall record of 0-2. Sewanee holds an overall record of 2-0.
