MENOMONIE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (1-2, 1-0) secured a decisive 18-10 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stout (3-2, 0-1) on Wednesday evening at Nelson Field. The Blugolds' offense was bolstered by a strong performance with four power-play goals contributing to the win.
The Blugolds opened the first quarter with
Lizzy Schoknecht securing the position at goalie. The visitors established an early lead with
Victoria Shea scoring the first goal at 9:44. The Blue Devils responded with a free position goal by Mai Nou Vang at 9:01, leveling the score briefly. However, UWEC regained control with
Grace Schmidt netting a goal at 8:24, assisted by
Reegan Werner. Additional goals from
Addison Moudry at 6:31 and
Paige Kiani at 0:35 extended UWEC's lead. The quarter ended with UWEC ahead 4-1.
Mai Nou Vang opened the second quarter for the Blue Devils with a goal at 14:52, assisted by Brinley Tonn, leveling the score. The Blugolds responded with
Addison Moudry scoring from a free position at 12:46. UW-Stout's Luci Fitzgerald and Brinley Tonn each netted goals, with Tonn's coming on a man-up opportunity. However, UWEC surged ahead in the latter stages, as
Reegan Werner,
Jess Stiller, and
Grace Schmidt each found the back of the net, with Schmidt scoring twice, including a man-up goal at 00:44. The quarter concluded with UWEC leading 9-6.
The Blugolds extended their lead in the third quarter, capitalizing on turnovers and fouls by the Blue Devils.
Grace Schmidt opened the quarter's scoring with a goal at 12:38, assisted by
Reegan Werner.
Jess Stiller added two goals, including a man-up strike at 10:48. Despite a response from UW-Stout's Mai Nou Vang and Riley Schulte, UWEC maintained control, as
Addison Moudry scored twice, including a man-down goal at 3:14. UWEC's aggressive play led to a 15-8 advantage by the end of the quarter.
The Blue Devils' Riley Schulte opened the fourth quarter with a goal at 13:43, bringing UW-Stout closer on the scoreboard. However, the Blugolds responded with a goal by
Victoria Shea at 11:36, cutting into UW-Stout's momentum.
Jess Stiller, assisted by
Reegan Werner, further extended the Blugolds' lead with a goal at 6:16. Despite playing a man down,
Emerson Mattox scored at 5:08, solidifying the Blugolds' advantage. The quarter concluded with UWEC maintaining a strong lead, ending the game with an 18-10 victory over UW-Stout.
