MADISON, Wis. - The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced the Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Januray 5-11. The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey's Max Gutjahr has been named the Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week by anonymous vote of WIAC head coaches and Sports Information Directors.

Gutjahr was instrumental in UW-Eau Claire's weekend sweep of Milwaukee School of Engineering, stopping 51 of the 52 shots he faced in over 124 minutes of playing time. After posting his fourth shutout of the season on Jan. 9, with 30 saves, including overtime, Gutjahr stopped another 21 shots on Jan. 10, as the Blugolds defeated the Raiders 1-0 (overtime) and 3-1. Gutjahr and the Blugold defense successfully defended 11 of the 12 powerplays they faced in the series. Gutjahr sits on top of the conference in goals against average, save percentage and shutouts.
