Blugolds Defeat Pointers 3-1; Complete Regular Season Sweep of UWSP Since 2015-16 Season

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire (8-4-1, 6-1-0) defeated UW-Stevens Point (4-7-1, 2-4-1), 3-1, at K.B. Willett Arena. The Blugolds' Max Gutjahr made 31 saves, holding UW-Stevens Point scoreless through the first two periods. This victory marks the first time UWEC has completed a regular season sweep of UW-Stevens Point since the 2015/16 season.

The first period began with both teams trading early opportunities. UW-Eau Claire's Carter Bradley found the net at 5:35, scoring the first goal with an assist from Leo Bacallao, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. UW-Stevens Point had two power play opportunities but failed to capitalize, on either as Max Gutjahr made key saves during both penalty kills. The period concluded with UW-Eau Claire maintaining their 1-0 advantage, despite UWSP's persistent pressure.

The second period was marked by defensive stands and missed opportunities, as both teams failed to score. UW-Eau Claire's offense was active, generating a series of shots, including attempts by Nolan Grier and Kade Peterson, but Alex Proctor effectively guarded the goal for the Pointers. The period saw multiple penalties, including a tripping call against Blake Norris that led to a power play for the Blugolds, but UWEC was unable to capitalize on the opportunity. Gutjahr stood firm in net for the visitors, notably saving a penalty shot by Cody Pisarczyk at 4:36. As the period concluded, the score remained unchanged with UWEC leading 1–0.

Nolan Grier extended the Blugolds' lead to 2-0 with an even-strength goal at 15:39 of the third period, assisted by Luke Lavery. The Pointers responded as Gabe Randel scored at 7:33, narrowing the deficit to 2-1 with help from Camden Markham and Bennett Koupal. Grier struck again at 6:59, netting his second goal of the period and seventh of the season, assisted by Trenten Heyde, to make it 3-1. Despite multiple attempts, UW-Stevens Point could not capitalize on a late power play, and The Blugolds secured the victory.

Nolan Grier scored twice on five shots, including the game-winner, to lead the team offensively. Carter Bradley added a goal on his lone shot attempt, contributing to the team's scoring efforts. Trenten Heyde recorded an assist and blocked three shots, bolstering the defensive efforts. Max Gutjahr finished with 31 saves, allowing only one goal to help secure the victory.

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire holds an 8-4-1 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in conference play. UW-Stevens Point stands at 4-7-1 overall and 2-4-1 in conference competition.
