EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Hamline University played to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds responded with a second half goal after falling behind 2-1 in the first half. The Blugolds fired 21 shots, with nine on target, while Hamline managed eight shots, four of which were on goal. Both teams tallied six fouls in the tightly contested match.
The match commenced with the Blugolds setting an early tone, as
Jayda Swopes found the net in the 6th minute with an assist from
Abby Nordquist, giving the home team an initial lead. Despite facing multiple attempts from Hamline, goalkeeper
Ella Swanson made a crucial save in the 22nd minute to maintain the advantage temporarily.
However, momentum shifted when Hamline's Addyson Barrett equalized in the 25th minute, followed by Alexis Geary putting the visitors ahead in the 38th minute. The Blugolds continued to press forward, generating several shots but were unable to convert before the end of the half. The first half concluded with Hamline leading 2-1.
The second half began with a crucial equalizer for the Blugolds, as
Emma Donovan scored in the 46th minute, assisted by
Mikalyn Hidde and
Haley Von Rentzell, leveling the score at 2-2. The Blugolds maintained offensive pressure, creating multiple opportunities, including a corner in the 49th minute and consistent shots throughout the half. Swanson contributed a key save in the 68th minute to keep the game tied.
Despite numerous attempts from the Blugolds, including shots from
Sabrina Pickart and
Clara Farley, visiting goalkeeper Isabella Jensen made several saves to deny further scoring. As the half closed, the Blugolds' persistent attacking efforts kept Hamline on the defensive, but the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
Swopes scored a goal with her only shot on goal for the Blugolds. Hidde contributed with an assist, adding to her tally of two shots with one on goal. Donovan also found the back of the net, scoring the game-tying goal on her sole shot on target. Pickart led the team in attempts with five total shots, two of which were on goal.
The Blugolds hold a 1-6-3 overall record this season. Hamline stands at 3-2-4 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
