CHICAGO, Ill. — UChicago defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 4-2 on Saturday at Stagg Field. The game was highlighted by UChicago's second-half surge, scoring three goals after the break. UW-Eau Claire initially led with two first-half goals, but UChicago responded with a strong offensive performance, capitalizing on eight shots on goal overall.
The first half began with the Blugolds taking an early lead just 1:23 into the match, as
Owen Williams scored with assists from
Carson Kowalski and
Alek Laroi. The Blugolds extended their advantage to 2-0 in the 9th minute when Kowalski successfully converted a penalty kick. UChicago managed to pull one back in the 42nd minute with a goal from Kai Walsh, reducing the deficit to 2-1 by the end of the half.
The second half commenced with tension as UChicago equalized in the 48th minute through William Stewart, assisted by Jadyn Hsieh-Bailey. Despite a red card issued to
Ramzi Ouro at the 54th minute, UWEC maintained pressure, with Williams taking a shot in the 56th minute. However, UChicago seized control with goals from Hsieh-Bailey in the 70th minute and Max Weene in the 75th, each assisted by teammates, sealing a 4-2 victory.
Williams scored one goal on two shots, with one shot on goal. Kowalski contributed both a goal and an assist, converting his only shot on target. Laroi added an assist while managing to get one shot on goal.
Charlie Mroz, in goal for 77:22 minutes, recorded four saves on 12 shots faced.
UW-Eau Claire holds a record of 3-2-1 on the season. UChicago stands at 3-1-3 overall.
