EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team defeated UW-Stevens Point 5-2 in its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener on Saturday at home. The Blugolds won twice in doubles and four times in singles to defeat the Pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire started things off on a high note, capturing the one point up for grabs in doubles action. Juan Gallego (So. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Ethan Wurzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.) won 6-1 in the No. 1 flight and Sam Murillo (So. - Minneapolis, Minn./Coon Rapids) and Pablo Rincón (So. - Bogotá, Colombia) won 7-6 (2) at No. 2 doubles.
- In singles play, Rincón won the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-1. Otto Schluter (Sr. - Henfield, England) won the No. 3 flight 6-3, 6-0. Billy Hughes (Fr. - Trowbridge, England) won at No. 4 6-1, 6-3. Murillo won at No. 5 6-4, 6-4.
