EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team swept a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader against UW-River Falls 10-0 and 11-3 on Wednesday at Bollinger Fields. Both games ended in five innings as the Blugolds cruised in their penultimate WIAC doubleheader of the regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (27-11, 7-5) climbed into third place in the WIAC standings with the victories.
- Lauren Trottier (So. - Burlington, Wis./Elkhorn) pitched a complete game shutout in Game 1. She held the Falcons (19-19, 3-9) to five hits and no walks while striking out three.
- Offensively, the Blugolds broke the first game open with a seven-run third inning. It started with a two-RBI triple from Norah Kutnink (So. - Winneconne, Wis.), and Molly Marquardt (So. - Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) added a three-RBI double later in the frame.
- Five different Blugolds had multiple hits in Game 1: Kutnink, Marquardt, Kenna Strunsee (Sr. - Waukesha, Wis./South), Megan Patterson (Sr. - Johnsburg, Ill.) and Miranda Gernander (So. - Coleraine, Minn./Greenway).
- In Game 2, the Blugolds posted a pair of four-run innings in the third and fifth to end the game early. Marquardt and Haley Hagedorn (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) hit RBI doubles in the third, and Paige Lathrop (Jr. - South Milwaukee, Wis.) added a run-scoring double in the fourth.
- Marquardt's second double of the game in the fifth inning capped the scoring for the Blugolds.
- Lathrop finished with three hits in Game 2 and Marquardt added two. Emma Sather (Sr. - Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to earn the victory in the circle.

The Blugolds visit No. 18 UW-Oshkosh in their final doubleheader of the regular season on Sunday, May 4. The doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. in Oshkosh.
