EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team wrapped up its season with a pair of dual victories on Saturday at John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center. The Blugolds defeated MSOE 6-1 before blanking UW-Superior 7-0 to end their campaign with five consecutive victories.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds swept all three doubles matches against MSOE.
- In singles play against the Raiders, Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.), Juan Gallego (So. - Madison, Wis./Memorial), Billy Hughes (Fr. - Trowbridge, England), Sam Murillo (So. - Minneapolis, Minn./Coon Rapids) and Ethan Leeser (Jr. - Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) all picked up victories for the Blugolds.
- UW-Eau Claire took two of three doubles matches against UW-Superior, capturing victories at No. 1 and No. 3.
- The Blugolds won all six singles flights to clinch the dual over the Yellowjackets. That included a third-set tiebreak victory by Wurtzel in the No. 1 flight.
The Blugolds concluded their schedule with a 9-7 record. They went 6-1 after returning from their spring break trip to Florida and finished second in the WIAC's West Division standings.
