EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team defeated the College of St. Scholastica 4-3 on Thursday at the John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The dual was tightly contested, coming down to the No. 1 singles match to decide the victor.
- The Saints won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead entering singles play.
- In singles action, the Blugolds got wins from Pablo Rincon (So. - Bogota, Colombia), Billy Hughes (Fr. - Trowbridge, England), and Ethan Leeser (Jr. - Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) while the No. 1 match was still unfolding. With the dual score tied 3-3, the winner of the top singles match clinched the meet for his team.
- Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.) came up big for the Blugolds, winning the top match 6-2, 7-6 (2) after a hard-fought tiebreak. It sealed the victory for Eau Claire.
