LA CROSSE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's track and field teams competed in a pair of meets on Thursday, with the multi athletes opening up UW-La Crosse's Phil Esten Challenge while a handful of pole vaulters competed at the Kansas Relays.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In La Crosse, the Blugolds have the top two scorers in the decathlon and heptathlon heading into Day 2 of the meet. Jace Stolte (Fr. - Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie East) leads the decathlon standings at 3,509. He's followed closely by Mitch Stegeman (Sr. - Coleman, Wis./Suring) at 3,507. Both athletes picked up one first-place finish on the first day of decathlon events.
- In the heptathlon, Emilee Booker (Sr. - Genoa City, Wis./Badger) holds the lead entering Day 2 at 3,103. Emma Gruen (Sr. - Elroy, Wis./Royall) is in second at 3,031. Booker won two events on Thursday while Gruen won one.
- In Kansas, competing in one of the largest track and field meets in the country, Johnny Botsch (Fr. - Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) won the men's unseeded pole vault. He hit a height of 4.97 meters to place first. In the women's unseeded pole vault, Haley Blagdon (Sr. - Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) placed first at 3.69 meters.
