Box Score WINONA, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team bested UW-La Crosse 4-3 on Thursday at Winona Tennis Center. The Blugolds took four of six singles matches to overcome a deficit and defeat the Eagles in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds lost two of three doubles matches to open the dual, falling into a 1-0 hole entering singles play.
- In singles action, UW-Eau Claire picked up four crucial victories to fend off the Eagles. That included a three-set win from Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.) in the No. 1 match, 7-6, 5-7, 6-3.
- Pablo Rincón (So. - Bogotá, Colombia) won the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-1. Otto Schluter (Sr. - Henfield, England) won at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0.
- Sam Murillo (So. - Minneapolis, Minn./Coon Rapids) helped clinch the dual with a comeback win at No. 5 singles, 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.
