ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team saw its four-game win streak snapped with a 12-6 defeat at the College of Saint Benedict on Monday night. The Bennies pulled ahead late in the first quarter and led the rest of the way in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (7-5, 4-2) took a 2-1 lead in the first four minutes after Reegan Werner (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) and Victoria Shea (So. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) scored a goal each. A goal from Jess Stiller (So. - Evergreen, Colo.) later in the period made it a 3-3 game.
- Saint Benedict (6-5, 3-2) scored to take a 4-3 lead with 2:37 left in the first quarter, and didn't trail again.
- The Bennies outscored the Blugolds 4-0 in the second quarter to take an 8-3 lead into halftime.
- UW-Eau Claire got goals from Devon Crews (Jr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit), Werner and Ellie Fisher (So. - Stillwater, Minn.) in the second half, but it wasn't enough to make up the deficit.
- Crews dished a pair of assists to finish with a team-high three points. Shea tallied five draw controls.
- Saint Benedict held a 36-29 advantage in shots. Alexandria Shea (Sr. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) made 12 saves for the Blugolds.
