EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire softball team swept St. Norbert College 10-0 and 8-0 on Saturday in its first two games at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse. The Blugolds rode dominant pitching performances to a pair of shutouts — their first two of the Sonnentag Fieldhouse era. Both games ended in five innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds (8-2) only allowed one St. Norber (0-2) baserunner to reach second base in the first game of the doubleheader, and kept the Green Knights off the board in Game 2 as well.
- Three pitchers combined for the shutout in the first game. Claire Beck (Sr. - Jefferson, Wis.) earned the win with three innings of work, striking out two while allowing only three hits. She walked none. Kira Schubert (So. - Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Emma Sather (Sr. - Chetek, Wis./Chetek-Weyerhaeuser) both pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
- UW-Eau Claire scored twice in the first inning and twice in the second inning before erupting for six in the third. Emmy Olson (Fr. - Onalaska, Wis.) hit a two-RBI single in the frame, and Molly Marquardt (So. - Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) added an RBI double.
- Jacie Schultz (Sr. - Lake Crystal, Minn./Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial) pitched a complete game shutout in Game 2. She worked all five frames and held St. Norbert to four hits and a walk while striking out six.
- The Blugolds took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of Game 2. They added two more runs in the fourth inning and broke it open with five runs in the fifth.
- Ava Kozlovsky (Fr. - Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) hit a two-run homer in the win. Emma Raikowski (Jr. - Stevens Point, Wis.) added a two-RBI single in the fifth.
- Four different Blugolds had multi-hit games.
