ARLINGTON, Va. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team wrapped up their East Coast Spring Break trip on Saturday with a nonconference game against Marymount University. The Saints' offensive firepower was too much for the Blugolds as they fell, 18-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Marymount (8-2) scored the first six goals of the game across the opening nine minutes.
- Ellie Fisher (So. – Stillwater, Minn.) found the Blugolds' (3-4) first goal of the afternoon with just over five minutes left in the opening quarter. Alexie Romanelli (Sr. – Naperville, Ill.) helped UWEC score back-to-back goals in the first quarter at the 3:58 mark to cut the deficit to 6-2. Romanelli's eighth goal of the season was scored on the player advantage as Eau Claire scored during all four of Marymount's penalties.
- Devin Crews (Jr. – St. Louis, Mo.) found the Blugolds' third goal of the first quarter with less than 90 seconds to play as Eau Claire ended the first frame behind 7-3.
- The Saints held Eau Claire to just one goal a quarter during the final 45 minutes of play. Reagan Werner (Jr. – Farmington, Minn.) brought her scoring streak to three games with a goal in the second quarter and Jess Stiller (So. – Evergreen, Colo.) found a goal in each the third and fourth quarters.
- Marymount outscored Eau Claire 11-3 in the final three quarters.
- Reagan Werner and Victoria Shea (So. – Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) were the lone Blugolds with assists on the day. Romanelli, Crews, Werner, and Stiller led the offense with two shots on goal each.
- Alexandria Shea (Sr. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) had twelve saves in net for UW-Eau Claire.
UP NEXT
The Blugolds will return home and begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action on Wednesday, March 26 when they host Hamline University at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse. UWEC will hold Youth Day with the game set to begin at 5 p.m.
