ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team went 1-1 across a pair of duals on Wednesday. The Blugolds defeated St. Lawrence 6-1 to start the day and fell to Warner (Fla.) 6-1 later in the evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds cruised past St. Lawrence in the morning to pick up their first win of the spring break trip. They won all but the No.1 matches in both singles and doubles against the Saints.
- Pablo Rincón (So. - Bogotá, Colombia) and Sam Murillo (So. - Minneapolis, Minn./Coon Rapids) won the No. 2 doubles match against St. Lawrence, and Andrew Mueller (Sr. - Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and Otto Schluter (Sr. - Henfield, England) took the No. 3 match to give the Blugolds a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
- Rincón, Schluter, Billy Hughes (Fr. - Trowbridge, England), Murillo and Ethan Leeser (Jr. - Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) all won their singles matches to clinch the dual. Four of those five victories came in straight sets, while Leeser won his match in a third-set tiebreak.
- Later in the day, Warner won all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches against the Blugolds.
- Hughes picked up the only win against the Royals, taking the No. 4 singles match 6-4, 6-2.
