FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team fell to the University of Mary Washington 20-3 on Tuesday. The Eagles pulled away in the first half and the Blugolds couldn't make up enough ground for a comeback.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mary Washington (8-1) scored the first four goals of the game across the opening nine minutes.
- Jess Stiller (So. - Evergreen, Colo.) got the Blugolds (3-3) on the board off an assist from Reegan Werner (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) with 2:28 left in the first quarter. However, the Eagles answered with two goals in a space of seven seconds at the end of the quarter to take a 6-1 lead into the second period.
- Werner scored unassisted to open up the second quarter, and Devon Crews (Jr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) added another goal midway through the quarter. Mary Washington scored five times in the quarter though, and led 11-3 at halftime.
- The Eagles held the Blugolds scoreless in the second half to see out the victory.
- Crews finished with three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Werner had two ground balls and three draw controls.
- Alexandria Shea (Sr. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) had eight saves in net for UW-Eau Claire.
