Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team got off to a strong start, but ultimately saw its upset bid fall short in a 6-1 defeat to No. 37 Hobart on Tuesday. The Blugolds won two of three doubles matches to take the dual lead headed into singles play, but the Statesmen rallied from there.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds' duos of Juan Gallego (So. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.) and Sam Murillo (So. - Minneapolis, Minn./Coon Rapids) and Pablo Rincón (So. - Bogotá, Colombia) won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, respectively. Gallego and Wurtzel won 6-3, while Murillo and Rincón won 7-6 (2). That gave the Blugolds a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
- The Statesmen won all six singles matches to clinch the dual.
- Rincón had the lone set victory for the Blugolds in singles action. He dropped the No. 2 match in a third-set tiebreak, 1-6, 6-3, 1-0.

The Blugolds play a pair of duals on Wednesday, March 19 in Orlando. They start the day with a clash against St. Lawrence University at 9 a.m. Eastern, and follow with a meeting with Warner University at 6 p.m. Eastern.
