WESTMINSTER, Md. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team dropped the first game of its spring break trip to McDaniel College 14-5 on Sunday. The Blugolds fell behind in the first half and couldn't make up enough ground down the stretch in the defeat.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Green Terror (5-3) scored the first six goals of the game to stake an early lead. On the other end of the field, they held the Blugolds (3-2) scoreless until the 2:59 mark of the second quarter.
- Paige Kiani (So. - New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) got UW-Eau Claire on the board with a goal to make it 6-1 with 2:59 left in the half, but McDaniel answered with two more goals in the final three minutes to take a seven-goal advantage into halftime.
- Jess Stiller (So. - Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen) scored twice in the third quarter and Reegan Werner (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) added a goal of her own, but McDaniel led 12-4 entering the fourth.
- Devon Crews (Jr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) scored the final goal for UW-Eau Claire in the fourth quarter, but the Blugolds couldn't cut the deficit any lower than seven.
- Stiller, Werner and Taylor Sanchez (So. - Fallbrook, Calif.) each had an assist.
- McDaniel held a 24-11 advantage in shots on goal.
