EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire gymnastics team defeated Simpson College 189.375-185.750 on Thursday at the McPhee Center. The Blugolds scored a new season high to pick up their first win of the season during the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- As a team, the Blugolds won each event. Individually, they had first-place finishes in three of the four events.
- Cadence Cordova (So. - Boise, Idaho/Renaissance) led UW-Eau Claire on the vault. She scored a 9.600 and took second place overall. The Blugolds had a team score of 47.275.
- Madison Daly (So. - Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) won the uneven bars with a 9.575. It helped the Blugolds post a 47.025 in the event.
- Meghan Dahlin (So. - Holly, Mich.) and Linnea Vasali (So. - York, Pa./Central York) shared first place on the beam. They tallied matching 9.675s. The Blugolds tallied a team score of 47.450 on the beam.
- Kelsey Donovan (Sr. - Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard East) tied for first place in the floor exercise. She scored a 9.600. As a team, the Blugolds posted a 47.625 on the floor — their best score of the night.
- There were no all-around competitors in the dual.
- The victory was the Blugolds' first of the season, and served as the team's third win over Simpson in the last three seasons.
UP NEXT
UW-Eau Claire is back at home on Friday, February 14, when they host Winona State for a WIAC dual. The team will be hosting Alumni Night. The meet begins at 6 p.m. at the McPhee Center.
