EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team opened up its Sonnentag Fieldhouse era with a 21-4 victory over Augustana (Ill.) on Saturday at the new facility. The Blugolds scored 11 goals in the first quarter and never looked back to win their home opener — their first game at the Fieldhouse.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire got seven goals from Ellie Fisher (So. - Stillwater, Minn.) scored seven goals to lead the Blugolds. That tied for the second-most goals by a player in a single game in program history.
- The Blugolds scored three times in the first three minutes of the game and led the rest of the way. They added six goals across the final four and a half minutes of the quarter, and carried an 11-1 lead into the second.
- UW-Eau Claire (2-0) tacked on four more goals in the second quarter and led 15-3 at halftime.
- The Blugolds held the Vikings scoreless in the third and added five more goals of their own.
- Each team scored a goal apiece in the final quarter.
- Alexie Romanelli (Sr. - Naperville, Ill./Central) had three goals for UW-Eau Claire. Devon Crews (Jr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit), Reegan Werner (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) and Paige Kiani (So. - New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) tallied four points each off two goals and two assists.
- Samantha Burns (Sr. - Mahtomedi, Minn.), Victoria Shea (So. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) and Jess Stiller (So. - Evergreen, Colo.) all had two points apiece.
- Alexandria Shea (Sr. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) had six saves to earn the win in net.
- UW-Eau Claire went 19 for 19 on clear attempts.
