Wurtzel and Gallego sweep No. 1 Doubles during home doubleheader

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team was at home on Saturday for a pair of nonconference matches with Carleton College and Luther College. The Blugolds found success at No.1 doubles in both matches but fell to both the Knights and the Norse, 7-0 and 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. – Menomonie, Wis.) and Juan Gallego (So. – Madison, Wis./Madison Memorial) were the lone Blugolds to find victories on the day as they took down the top pairings from Carleton and Luther in No. 1 doubles. Wurtzel and Gallego defeated the Knights 6-2 and the Norse 7-6 (7-1).
  • Pablo Rincon (So. – Bogota, Colombia) battled hard at No. 2 singles against Carleton but fell 6-4, 6-2.
  • Billy Hughes (Fr. – Trowbridge, England) forced a set 1 tiebreaker during his match at No. 4 singles against Carleton. Hughes held a 5-0 lead in the first set but eventually fell 7-5 and 6-1.
