EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team bested UW-Oshkosh 62-49 on Wednesday at the Sonnentag Event Center. The Blugolds clinched the No. 3 seed for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament (Presented by Culver's) with the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (16-8, 8-5) built a big lead in the first half and never looked back to finish off a regular-season sweep of the Titans (12-12, 3-10).
- Four players scored in double figures for the Blugolds, led by Andre Renta (Jr. - Hudson, Wis.) and Carter Huschka (Sr. - Farmington, Minn.) with 19 and 16 points, respectively. The Blugolds shot 41% in the win and went 13 of 13 at the free throw line.
- UW-Eau Claire never trailed. The Blugolds opened the game with a 9-2 run after a pair of 3-pointers from Michael Casper (Sr. - Merrill, Wis.) and another from Huschka.
- The lead later grew to double figures when the Blugolds embarked on an 11-2 spurt in the late stages of the first half. UW-Eau Claire held UW-Oshkosh to four points across the final 3:30 of the period and led 30-21 at the break.
- The Titans managed to slash the deficit to six points midway through the second half, but UW-Eau Claire immediately answered with an 8-1 run to put the game away.
- Casper and Carter Lichtsinn (Jr. - Olathe, Kan./Olathe West) had 11 points apiece. Cade Hall (Sr. - Mauston, Wis.) had 13 rebounds.
- The Blugolds dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Titans 38-26.
UP NEXT
The Blugolds wrap up the regular season with a home game against UW-Whitewater on Saturday, February 22. Tip-off is at 5 p.m. at the Sonnentag Event Center. The team will host its Senior Night ceremony after the game.
