EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team wrapped up their regular season on Saturday as they hosted UW-Whitewater. The Blugolds ran into a Whitewater offense that shot 46% from the field and hit eight threes in the first half to hand UWEC their ninth loss on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (16-9, 8-6) found themselves in a nine-point hole in the first twelve minutes as the Warhawks hit four shots beyond the arch for a 23-14 lead.
- Carter Huschka (Sr. – Farmington, Minn.) led Eau Claire on the night with 23 points and 13 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the year.
- The Blugolds held the advantage on fast break points, outscoring Whitewater 15-6 on the break.
- The second half saw the Blugolds improve their shooting to 37% from the field but were outscored 37-36 in the 15-point defeat.
- Andre Renta (Jr. – Hudson, Wis.) helped the Blugolds stay in the game with 18 points and four rebounds on the night.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Blugolds earn the No. 3 seed in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament and will host UW-Oshkosh on Monday, February 24 at the Sonnentag Event Center. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. as UWEC Athletics holds Chippewa Calley Fan Appreciation Night. All fans will receive free admission into the first playoff basketball game in the Blugolds new home.
