DANVILLE, Ky. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team won its season opener 13-10 over Centre College on Saturday.
Reegan Werner (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) surpassed 100 points in her Blugold career as UW-Eau Claire pulled away to start off the season on a high note.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Samantha Burns (Sr. - Mahtomedi, Minn.), Devon Crews (Jr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) and Ellie Fisher (So. - Stillwater, Minn.) scored three goals apiece to lead the Blugolds (1-0).
- Werner tallied two points to bring her career total to 101. She is the third player in program history to hit the milestone.
- UW-Eau Claire pulled away from the Colonels in the third quarter. It was a 6-5 lead for the Blugolds at halftime, but they outscored Centre 5-2 in the third. The Colonels had tied the game at 7-7 before Crews scored to start a run of four consecutive goals for the Blugolds. It put UW-Eau Claire ahead for good.
- The Blugolds led by at least two goals the rest of the way.
- Victoria Shea (So. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) added two goals for UW-Eau Claire. Alexie Romanelli (Sr. - Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) and Werner added single goals.
- Alexandria Shea (Sr. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) made 11 saves for the Blugolds to earn the win in net.
- UW-Eau Claire held a 15-11 advantage in draw controls.
