STEVENS POINT, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team rallied past UW-Stevens Point 66-62 on Saturday at Quandt Fieldhouse. The Blugolds rallied from a deficit in the final two minutes to pick up a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (15-8, 7-5) trailed by three after the Pointers hit a tie-breaking 3-pointer with 1:53 left in regulation. The Blugolds took over from there though, closing the game on a 9-2 run to walk away with a road victory.
- After falling behind 60-57, the Blugolds hit three free throws before Andre Renta (Jr. - Hudson, Wis.) gave them the lead for good with a go-ahead layup with 43 seconds left. The Blugolds made enough free throws in the final moments of the game to hold on for the victory.
- It capped what had been a back-and-forth affair. Neither team led by more than seven, and the vast majority of the game was played with a one- or two-possession lead by either side.
- Renta finished with a team-high 21 points. He also had six assists.
- Carter Huschka (Sr. - Farmington, Minn.) had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Carter Lichtsinn (Jr. - Olathe, Kan./Olathe West) added eight points.
- UW-Eau Claire shot 48% from the field and held a 30-25 advantage in rebounding.
- The win finished off a regular-season sweep of the Pointers.
