EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team got its spring season off to a winning start, defeating Concordia University Wisconsin 7-0 on Saturday at the John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds swept all six singles matches and earned the single doubles point that was up for grabs.
- Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.) swept the No. 1 singles match in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Otto Schluter (Sr. - Henfield, England), Sam Murillo (So. - Minneapolis, Minn./Coon Rapids) and Ethan Leeser (Jr. - Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) also won in straight sets at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6, respectively.
- Pablo Rincón (So. - Bogotá, Colombia) and Billy Hughes both won third-set tiebreaks in the other two singles matches.
- In doubles play, Wurtzel and Andrew Mueller (Sr. - Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) won the No. 1 match 7-6. Murillo and Rincón won at No. 2, 6-3. Leeser and Schluter made it a sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3.

The Blugolds are back at home on Friday, February 14 when they host Bethel (Minn.). The dual begins at 6 p.m. at the John & Fay Menard YMCA Tennis Center.
