SUPERIOR, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (9-2-0, 5-0-0) defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior (1-8-0, 1-2-0), 4–2, on Saturday. The Blugolds outshot the Yellowjackets 49–16, securing the win with a balanced offensive effort.
The first period began with UW-Superior taking an early lead at 15:37 when Kendal Gustavsson scored, assisted by Addison Fee. UW-Eau Claire responded at 07:48 with
Maddie Hulter finding the back of the net, aided by
Adrienne Hansen, leveling the score. UW-Superior regained a one-goal advantage at 03:55 as Avery Olenik scored, with Ashton Parnell assisting. However, with only 17 seconds remaining, Hansen scored for the Blugolds, assisted by
Jana Lesch and Hulter, tying the game 2–2 heading into the intermission.
Midway through the second period,
Madisyn Krumholz scored the decisive goal for UWEC at 8:40, assisted by
Nora Carstensen and
Kylie Wiltse, pushing the visitors ahead 3–2. The Blugolds capitalized on their offensive momentum with multiple shots, though Jayda Moyer of UW-Superior turned away several attempts. Both teams had power play opportunities, with UW-Eau Claire failing to convert early, while UW-Superior could not break through during their late advantage.
Kambelle Freije made crucial saves to preserve the lead before the period ended.
In the third period, the Blugolds extended their lead over the Yellowjackets with a critical goal by
Jordan Hancock at 7:46, assisted by
Kenzie Keller. The period saw significant defensive efforts, including a blocked shot by Lesch early on and Freije's key saves against Riley Avelar and Taylee Marks. Despite UW-Superior's attempt to capitalize on a power play following a tripping penalty on
Keira Bolt, they were unable to convert. UW-Eau Claire maintained their composure and concluded the period with a 4–2 victory.
Krumholz scored the decisive game-winning goal in the second period. Hulter added to the offensive effort with one goal and one assist. Hansen recorded a goal and an assist, strengthening the team's offensive play. In goal, Freije made 14 saves while allowing two goals.
The Blugolds improved to 9-2-0 overall and maintained a perfect 5-0-0 record in conference play. Wis.-Superior fell to 1-8-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference competition.
