SAINT PAUL, Minn. — UW-Eau Claire (10-2-0) defeated Hamline (8-2-0), 3–2, with a decisive first period setting the tone in St. Paul. The Blugolds held onto their lead through a late push by the Pipers to secure the victory.
UW-Eau Claire took an early lead at 6:19 when
Maddie Hulter struck even strength, assisted by
Ava Johansson and
Adrienne Hansen. Hamline responded just minutes later with a power-play goal by Ella Rothe at 12:08, set up by Grace Delmonico and Iyla Ryskamp. The tie was broken when
Kenzie Keller scored on a power-play at 16:53, with assists from
Jordan Hancock and
Kylie Wiltse. The period concluded with Wis.-Eau Claire holding a 2–1 advantage.
UW-Eau Claire extended its lead in the second period with a pivotal goal by
Jana Lesch at 15:43, assisted by
Ashley Wagenbach and Hansen. Despite several attempts from Hamline, including shots by Abigail Chamernick and Maddy Belisle,
Kambelle Freije's saves kept the home team at bay. The period was marked by frequent exchanges of possession and defensive blocks, with both teams struggling to capitalize on scoring opportunities. The period concluded with UW-Eau Claire holding a 3-1 advantage.
UW-Eau Claire held a narrow lead entering the third period, but Hamline quickly closed the gap at 18:18 with Ashlyn Abrahamson's goal, assisted by Chamernick and Delmonico. The visitors responded with a flurry of shots, including attempts by Lesch and Wagenbach, but Hamline's Kendra Nordick made crucial saves to prevent further scoring. Late in the period, UWEC had a power-play opportunity following Lily Svajgl's roughing penalty at 2:55, but they were unable to capitalize. Despite pulling their goalie in the final minute, Hamline could not find an equalizer, and the Blugolds maintained their 3-2 advantage to secure the win.
Hulter scored one goal on two shots, contributing significantly to the team's offensive efforts. Keller recorded a power-play goal and added a total of four shots, showcasing her ability to capitalize on special teams opportunities. Lesch notched a game-winning goal, demonstrating her knack for clutch performances in key moments. Hansen provided two assists and won 13 of her 18 faceoffs, achieving a 72% faceoff win percentage and playing a vital role in puck control.
