ST. PAUL, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team defeated Bethel University (MN) 68-52 at the Robertson Center in St. Paul, Minn. Eau Claire's dominance in the paint, scoring 40 points, was pivotal to their victory. Bethel (MN) struggled with turnovers, committing seven, and failed to secure a lead throughout the game.
The Blugolds opened the game with a solid offensive performance, establishing a 30-23 lead over Bethel (MN) by the end of the first half.
Kenji Scales scored early with a layup, setting the pace for the visitors.
Xavier Lewis was a force in the paint, contributing multiple rebounds and layups, including one at 9:29 to extend the lead to 18-6.
Andre Renta capped the half with a 3-pointer, assisted by
Carter Lichtsinn, with just 54 seconds left, ensuring a seven-point advantage at the break.
In the second half, UW-Eau Claire secured a decisive win over the Royals with a 38-29 scoring run.
Kenji Scales initiated the momentum with a three-pointer at 18:37, and
Carter Lichtsinn added significant contributions with multiple layups, including one at 16:49.
Andre Renta facilitated the offense, notching several assists and contributing defensively with a block at 17:13. The Royals attempted to close the gap with a three-pointer at 13:51, but the Blugolds maintained control, closing the game with effective free-throw shooting, including four points from Renta in the final minute.
Carter Lichtsinn recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points and collecting 16 rebounds. Renta contributed with 12 points and dished out five assists while also blocking two shots. Lewis added 12 points and secured 11 rebounds, enhancing the team's presence in the paint.
UWEC holds a 7-0 overall record. Bethel (MN) is currently at 1-4 on the season.
