Men's Basketball stays hot with best start in program history since 1999

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team defeated St. Olaf 85-65 at the Sonnentag Event Center on Saturday for the team's best start in program history since 1999 with their eighth consecutive victory. The home team capitalized on a strong interior presence, scoring 50 points in the paint, and maintained a solid defense with 7 steals.

The game commenced with St. Olaf' sinking a three-pointer at the 19:38 mark, giving the visitors an early lead. However, UW-Eau Claire quickly responded with a dominant performance in the paint, scoring 36 points inside. Carter Lichtsinn led the charge with multiple layups, helping the home team to seize momentum. A late surge, highlighted by Andre Renta's layup with just two seconds remaining, allowed Eau Claire to close the first half with a 40-26 advantage.

The Blugolds maintained their advantage in the second half with a strong performance against the Oles, culminating in a decisive 45-39 second half score. Carter Lichtsinn was instrumental, contributing multiple key baskets, including a three-pointer at 13:14 that extended the lead to 54-38. The Oles attempted to stay competitive with two three-pointers, but the home team countered effectively, with Tyler Haney's consecutive three-pointers at 9:32 and 5:41 further solidifying the lead. St. Olaf's late jumper at 4:32 brought the visitors within reach, but Andre Renta's free throws and the team's defensive stops secured the victory for UW-Eau Claire.

Carter Lichtsinn led with 22 points and collected 11 rebounds, making eight field goals. Abdre Renta contributed 16 points and recorded six assists, converting six of nine field goal attempts. Tyler Haney scored 15 points, making three of four attempts from beyond the arc. Kenji Scales added 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

UWEC remains undefeated at 8-0 overall following their victory. The Oles have a 3-4 overall record after the loss.
