BELOIT, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire (4-1-0, 1-0-0) defeated Beloit (1-4-0, 0-1-0) with a decisive 9–0 victory on Friday. The Blugolds netted all nine goals in the second period, including two power-play scores.
The first period began with UW-Eau Claire taking control from the initial faceoff, won by
Adrienne Hansen against Beloit's Kennedy Gruhlke. Despite the Blugolds' persistent offensive efforts, including multiple shots from
Kylie Wiltse and saves by Beloit's goalie Janelle Quast, the period ended scoreless. Beloit had a late power play opportunity following a tripping penalty on
Madisyn Krumholz, but the Blugolds' defense, including a blocked shot by
Keira Bolt, held firm. The teams remained tied at 0-0 heading into the first intermission.
Wis.-Eau Claire dominated the second period with a commanding performance, scoring nine unanswered goals.
Lauren Ballinger opened the scoring at 19:23 with an even-strength goal, assisted by Krumholz and
Rachel Mirwald.
Josie Grossman doubled the lead unassisted at 18:28. Krumholz then capitalized on a power play at 17:08, with Ballinger again providing an assist. Hansen extended the lead to 4–0 at 15:43 with an unassisted goal, prompting Beloit to make a goalie change.
Gracyn Schipper,
Julianne Bradford, and
Kenzie Keller each added to the tally, with
Ava Johansson scoring on the power play at 3:32. Grossman concluded the scoring spree at 1:23, sealing a 9–0 advantage for the Blugolds by the end of the period.
UW-Eau Claire maintained its dominance in the third period, despite not adding to their lead. Bolt and
Tori Schmidt were active offensively, generating several shots, but were consistently thwarted by Beloit goaltender Maddy Bliss. The period was punctuated by intense defensive efforts, including blocked shots by Natasha Ludwig for Beloit. A late penalty on Tate Hutchinson gave the Blugolds a power play with 17 seconds remaining, but they failed to capitalize as the game ended with a score of 9-0 in favor of UW-Eau Claire.
First-year goaltender,
Addison Moudry, secured her first shutout of her young collegiate career stopping all 9 shots she faced. Krumholz scored one goal and added an assist, converting a power-play opportunity and winning 100% of her faceoffs.
Ella Thoreson recorded a plus-minus of plus-three and contributed an assist. Ballinger scored a game-winning goal and added another assist. Grossman tallied two goals and achieved a plus-minus of plus-four.
UWEC improved to 4-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play after their decisive victory. Beloit fell to 1-4-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference competition following the loss.
