EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire swept the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 25-20, 25-16, 25-19 on Wednesday on Lisa Herb Court at The Sonnentag Event Center. The home team delivered an efficient performance, highlighted by nine service aces and 43 kills. The Blugolds' defense was strong with 48 digs, while UW-Stevens Point managed 29 kills and five service aces in the match.
UWEC rallied late in the first set to secure a 25-20 victory over UW-Stevens Point. Despite a 5-1 and 7-2 deficits to begin the match, the home team rallied key plays from
Bailey Leeke, who contributed multiple kills, including a pivotal one at 21-20, earning the Blugolds their first lead of the night.
Abby Stanwood's serving was instrumental in closing the set, delivering two crucial aces to clinch the win.
The Blugolds capitalized on a dominant stretch midway through the second set, building a six-point run to secure a 25-16 victory over the Pointers.
Bailey Leeke contributed significantly with three consecutive kills, while
Alex Kiebel facilitated the offense with multiple assists.
Mya Cinnamo and
Lili Hagg combined for a crucial block that extended the lead late in the set. UW-Eau Claire's service game proved effective, as
Hannah Thole jumped at the opportunity to earn set point with her lone service ace of the evening.
UWEC opened the third set with a commanding 4-1 start, highlighted by
Abby Stanwood's two kills, and maintained momentum with a strong defensive showing, recording crucial blocks from
Darienne Andre,
Abby Stanwood,
Norah Erickson, and a solo block from
Lili Hagg.
Abby Stanwood's performance was pivotal, tallying multiple kills, while Kiebel facilitated the offense with key assists. The Blugolds capitalized on service errors from the Pointers, closing the set 25-19 with a decisive block from
Norah Erickson and
Darienne Andre.
Abby Stanwood led with five aces and contributed 16.5 points.
Bailey Leeke recorded 15 kills with a .394 hitting percentage and added 10 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Lili Hagg posted eight kills and tallied two total blocks.
Alex Kiebel set up the offense with 35 assists and added one ace.
UW-Eau Claire holds a 24-2 overall record and is 5-0 in WIAC play. The Pointers have a 14-12 record with a 2-3 mark in WIAC competition.
