EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team swept UW-Platteville 25-20, 25-13, 25-20 on Wednesday at the Sonnentag Event Center. The Blugolds showcased their precision with 43 kills and a hitting percentage of .217. Their defense was equally formidable, recording 60 digs and seven blocks, allowing UWP only a .076 hitting percentage.
Eau Claire secured a 25-20 win in the first set, propelled by a strong performance from
Mya Cinnamo, who delivered six crucial kills.
Alex Kiebel orchestrated the offense with twelve assists, contributing to key points. A service ace from
Hannah Thole closed the set as the Pioneers struggled with their attack, which allowed UW-Eau Claire to never trail throughout the set.
The Blugolds dominated the second set, opening with a 3-0 lead, extending their advantage to 14-4 with a block from
Lili Hagg and
Mya Cinnamo, and finihsed the set 25-13 off a kill by Cinnamo. Key contributions included two service aces by
Abby Stanwood and effective blocking by
Darienne Andre and
Lili Hagg, which forced multiple attack errors from the Pioneers. UWEC tallied four of the seven total block in the second set to solidify the home team's control throughout the period.
UW-Eau Claire secured the third set 25-20 over the Pioneers, aided by a strong performance from
Alex Kiebel, who contributed 14 assists, including key plays to
Abby Stanwood and
Mya Cinnamo. A critical solo block from
Lili Hagg helped the Blugolds establish a 15-11 mid-set lead. The home team's consistent pressure culminated with
Bailey Leeke's ninth kill of the evening to close the match.
Mya Cinnamo led the offensive charge with 15 kills and accumulated 15.5 points.
Alex Kiebel facilitated the attack with 32 assists while contributing 11 digs in defense.
Kaitlyn Erickson anchored the back row with 16 digs, providing stability in the defensive setup.
Abby Stanwood added depth to the offense with 10 kills and also recorded nine digs.
UW-Eau Claire holds a 25-2 overall record and remains undefeated at 6-0 in WIAC conference play. UW-Platteville has a 16-10 overall record with a 3-3 record in WIAC competition.
Looking ahead, the Blugolds will travel to face St. Olaf College at Bob Gelle Court at Skoglund Center in Northfield, Minnesota, on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.
