LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association has named University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire outside hitter,
Abby Stanwood, as the AVCA Division III Player of the Week for the week of October 12.
Stanwood helped the Blugolds to a 4-0 week with four road victories, including wins over No. 12-ranked Hope College (Mich.), and vote getting teams in Coe College (Iowa) and the University of Northwestern (Minn.). Stanwood swung at .354 hitting percentage, tallying 5.16 points per set, recording double-doubles in each of the three matches at the Hope Tournament, and in the 3-1 win over No. 12 Hope, she hit .364 with 21 kills and 13 digs. In the 12 sets won by the Blugolds, Stanwood recorded the winning point in seven of the sets with six set-sealing kills and one block assist.
Stanwood is the first Blugold to be named AVCA player of the week since 2019 when Arianna Barrett secured the honor, and just the third player in program history to receive the accolade after Michelle Arganbright was the inaugural Blugold honoree in 1993.
The Blugolds will return to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and travel to face UW-River Falls on Wednesday, Oct. 15. The match is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Don Page Arena in River Falls, Wis.
