MENOMONIE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire gymnastics team dropped a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual to UW-Stout 190.825-185.725 on Friday at Johnson Fieldhouse. The Blugolds got historic performances on the balance beam from
Meghan Dahlin (So. - Holly, Mich.) and
Linnea Vasali (So. - York, Pa./Central York) to highlight the evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dahlin and Vasali shared the beam title with matching 9.800s. That score stands as the second-best mark on the beam in UW-Eau Claire's history, only behind Olivia Aschenbrenner's 9.825 set in 2011. Dahlin and Vasali are now two of only three Blugold gymnasts to ever hit a 9.800 or better on the beam.
- Collectively, UW-Eau Claire scored a 48.150 on the beam to win that event. It set a new season high for the Blugolds.
- The Blue Devils won the other three events. The Blugolds scored a 47.250 on the vault, a 45.100 on the uneven bars and a 45.225 in floor exercise.
- Grace Gerster (Fr. - Hampton, Minn./Randolph) led the team on the vault with a 9.575. That was good for fourth place individually.
- Rachel Hettiarachchy (Jr. - Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) had a team-high 9.400 on the bars. She placed fifth.
- Hanna Riha (Fr. - Omaha, Neb./Mercy) led the Blugolds with a 9.475 in the floor exercise, good for fifth place.
- Madison Daly (So. - Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) placed third in the all-around with a score of 36.600.
