WHITEWATER, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team rode a huge first half to a 99-69 victory over UW-Whitewater on Saturday in Whitewater. The Blugolds scored 61 points before the break and matched a program record for 3-point shooting to cruise to a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds (10-6, 2-3) scored 30 points in the final nine minutes of the opening half. They outscored the Warhawks 30-18 in that span.
- That stretch featured a 19-5 run from the Blugolds that spanned four and a half minutes.
- UW-Eau Claire shot 75% from the field in the first half.
- UW-Whitewater (8-8, 2-3) couldn't recover in the second half. The Blugolds led by double figures the rest of the way, with the lead growing as high as 39 points.
- The Blugolds tied a program record with 17 3-pointers. It was the second time this season they made 17 shots from beyond the arc. They shot 61% from 3-point range.
- Michael Casper (Sr. - Merrill, Wis.) and Carter Huschka (Sr. - Farmington, Minn.) shared the team high with 21 points. Huschka also had six assists.
- Andre Renta (Jr. - Hudson, Wis.) and Gunnar Tebon (Sr. - Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) scored 17 points apiece. Renta had six assists.
- The Blugolds out-rebounded the Warhawks 34-26.
