MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team was back on the road on Friday for their opening game of the Auggie Invite hosted by Augsburg University. A back-and-forth match with Nebraska Wesleyan University saw the Blugolds fall in five sets despite leading in multiple stat categories.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bailey Leeke (Jr. – Lakeville, Minn.) led the Blugold offensive with 20 total kills, 3 aces and 25 points. Mya Cinnamo (So. Rosemount, Minn.) also added to the Blugold attack with 12 kills.
- Hannah Thole (West Des Moines, Iowa) recorded 32 assists on the day. Thole also led things on the defensive end with 18 digs.
- UW-Eau Claire racked up 9 total blocks at the net with Makina Larson (So. – Carver, Minn.) leading the way with three block assists.
- The Blugolds held the upper hand in kills, aces, and blocks during the five-set match. Team errors gave the opposition the advantage in the second and third sets.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Blugolds (2-3-0) will stay in Minnesota and play a pair of games on Saturday, September 7
th to conclude the Auggie invite. UWEC will face George Fox University at 10 a.m. and 16
th ranked Gustavus Adolphus College at 12 p.m. at Si Melby Hall.
